Overview

We develop and analyze efficient algorithms for a variety of applications in mathematics, computer science and natural and engineering sciences. One focus is on adequate data management and the efficient implementation of the algorithms on today's high-performance architectures, in particular the utilization of memory hierarchies and efficient parallelization strategies.
 

Research projects

  • Parallel algorithms in numerical linear algebra, in particular
    • parallel band reduction techniques
    • multiple-step reduction algorithms
    • blocking techniques for QR-type algorithms
  • Result-verifying algorithms, e.g.,
    • verified quadrature for determining Newton's constant of gravitation
    • verified solution of nonlinear systems
  • Efficient techniques for computing derivatives
  • Use of object-oriented languages (e.g., Java) for computational engineering and science
